Granaita, the largest retail and leisure park in Granada opens its doors - Castellana Properties, the firm specialised in the acquisition, management and refurbishment of properties in the retail sector, today unveiled Granaita Retail Park in Granada. This new retail space is the largest in the entire province, boasting a total area of 130,000 sqm and featuring over 80 retailers, including renowned Spanish and international brands such as Carrefour, Media Markt, Decathlon, KFC, Mercadona, Bricodepot, Conforama and Sprinter.

"At Castellana Properties, we believe in the importance of continually investing in our properties, to keep generating value and supporting the communities where we operate. Granaita is a clear example of this philosophy, and we are delighted with its new look and the economic boost that its opening will provide for Granada, Pulianas and the surrounding area", said Alfonso Brunet, CEO of Castellana Properties, at the Granaita press conference. In attendance were local politicians and business representatives including the Andalusian Local Government's Granada Delegate, Pablo García, the President of the Provincial Council, José Entrena, and the Mayor of Pulianas, José Antonio Carranza.

The new retail and leisure park is the result of a merger between Parque Kinépolis and Alameda Shopping Centre – after Castellana Properties acquired both properties in 2017 – and provides a wide range of leisure, food, fashion and F&B options for the residents of Pulianas, which is a short distance from Granada and towns such as Alfacar, Jun, Maracena and Peligros.

Granaita is the perfect entertainment and cultural destination for families and young people in Granada and its suburbs, although – thanks to its unbeatable location and accessibility – its catchment area also extends to the western limits of Granada province and the neighbouring province of Jaén to the north.

Castellana Properties has worked incredibly hard to upgrade the new Retail Park, in order to improve the shopping experience for its customers. In addition to interior upgrades – providing the complex with better lighting and a more modern look and feel – a new children's club has been added, and the different buildings at Granaita have been painted in different colours, making it easier for visitors to distinguish each one and navigate the complex more freely. A large open square has been created outside, adorned with plants and featuring a new children's play area, providing another open-air alternative for families to unwind.

Upgrades have also been made to the paved area, not only improving accessibility to the retail units, but also allowing more people to enjoy the outdoor terraces (weather permitting).

An initial planting phase of 250 trees will also help to reduce pollution in Granada and its suburbs.

An economic boost for the area

Castellana Properties has invested a total of €5 million in upgrading Granaita, providing an economic boost and a stronger leisure offering for the local population. The efforts carried out by Castellana Properties at Granaita will help to safeguard the 1,700 existing jobs, as well as creating direct and indirect jobs with the opening of new stores.

Experiences beyond shopping

The new retail park is centred around a new experience-based concept. When carrying out the upgrades, Castellana Properties took Granada's most deeply-rooted traditions into consideration, such as its love of outdoor leisure. Granaita offers its customers and tenants everything they need to enjoy a fully-rounded experience: as well as a wide range of supermarkets for their weekly shop (Carrefour, Mercadona, Lidl and Makro), visitors to Granaita can also pick up homeware items at Conforama, Maisons du Monde, JYSK and Espacio Casa; electrical appliances and the latest technology at Media Markt; DIY items at AKÍ and Bricodepot; sports clothing and equipment at Decathlon and Sprinter; and anything they need for their pets at Kiwoko.

Families and friends can also enjoy lunch or dinner at a number of establishments serving a wide range of cuisines and popular dishes. These include McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, Pomodoro, Muerde la Pasta, Foster's Hollywood, 100 Montaditos and El Tren, all of which are particularly popular in a place like Granada, where the local population enjoy going out for tapas. Dining options also include a range of international cuisines, such as La Cantina Mariachi – a favourite where the menu always excites – and Asador City Wok Granada, which allows you to try anything from exotic Asian dishes, right through to the most exquisite Argentine roasted meats.

Kinépolis Cinema – with 15 screens and the latest technology – Granada Ice Arena – with its ice-skating rink open 365 days a year – and Ozone Bowling, are three of the main leisure destinations for families visiting Granaita, providing a new, modern, innovative and inclusive entertainment and leisure option.

An unbeatable location

Granaita benefits from a strategic location, with easy access from the A-44 ring road, direct access from Granada city centre via the Jaén highway, and a short drive from other towns to the north of the city, via the VAU Norte road. Advanced negotiations with the Metropolitan Transport Consortium will also provide access to Granaita via private transport, bicycle and on foot, as well as public transport, with the expansion of one of the urban bus routes and the creation of bus shelters in the retail park.
