• The international AIS standard comprehensively assesses solutions addressing mobility, cognitive and sensory needs.

• Castellana Properties already has six certified assets in Spain. These are now joined by Bonaire and the four shopping centres it manages in Portugal, reinforcing its continued Iberian commitment to inclusion.

• In addition, the company has just published its ESG Report, which highlights that 100% of its shopping centres have achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating or higher, renewable electricity accounts for 91.7% of energy consumption in common areas and HVAC systems, and more than 300 social initiatives have been carried out across its assets.

Castellana Properties, a listed company specialising in the acquisition and management of shopping centres across the Iberian Peninsula, has announced that it has obtained AIS accessibility certification for its Bonaire shopping centre in Valencia and for the entire portfolio managed by the company in Portugal.

To achieve this recognition, Castellana Properties has implemented improvements across its assets. The four shopping centres in Portugal provide visitors with wide, accessible horizontal routes, while vertical access is fully facilitated through adapted lifts and platform lifts.

In terms of comfort and convenience, the properties feature accessible toilet facilities equipped with all the necessary measures to ensure proper use, as well as nursing rooms designed to accommodate families in complete comfort. The car parks have also been optimised with spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility, together with dedicated family parking spaces.

With regard to customer service, the centres have reception desks where visitors can receive assistance and support, as well as customer service points featuring clear, high-contrast signage. In Bonaire’s case, assistance call points are also available for visitors requiring immediate support.

In addition, all the assets safeguard the overall safety of their users through specific measures designed for the evacuation of people with additional needs in the event of an emergency. Through these initiatives, the company ensures a comprehensive approach that effectively addresses the physical, cognitive and sensory dimensions of accessibility.

“Obtaining AIS certification for our assets in Portugal is a clear reflection of Castellana Properties’ commitment to creating genuinely accessible spaces that are fully equipped to welcome everyone with the highest levels of comfort and safety. Taking this step demonstrates our active management capabilities and our ongoing determination to go beyond regulatory requirements, generating a positive and tangible social impact in the communities in which we operate,” said Jorge Orondo, Senior Energy & Utilities Manager at Castellana Properties.

Ignacio Lucini, Director of Institutional Relations at the ARS Foundation, added: “Castellana Properties has demonstrated a strong commitment to accessibility by obtaining AIS certification for its assets in Spain and Portugal, always with a focus on continuous improvement and the ultimate goal of creating retail spaces that welcome every visitor.”

Created and managed internationally by the ARS Foundation, a private non-profit organisation with more than four decades of experience in social projects and initiatives, AIS is currently the accessibility certification with the broadest international reach. The system is present in more than 30 countries and has issued over 4,000 certificates since 2013. The standard assesses the conditions of individual assets and serves as a strategic tool supporting the implementation of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion plans, as well as asset value enhancement.

The certification obtained for these five shopping centres joins the certifications already held by Vallsur, Puerta Europa, Bahía Sur, Los Arcos, El Faro and Habaneras. The company is also working to obtain certification for the assets added to its portfolio in recent months.

Castellana Properties publishes its annual ESG Report

Castellana Properties has also published its ESG Report for the 2026 financial year, setting out the main developments in its Beyond ESG Boundaries strategy and consolidating sustainability as a cross-cutting element of its investment, financing and asset-management activities.

The year’s main milestones include achieving the highest GRESB rating, with five stars and a score of 91 points, as well as receiving the EPRA BPR Gold and EPRA sBPR Gold awards, which recognise the company’s quality, transparency and performance in ESG matters.

From an environmental perspective, 100% of the company’s shopping centres hold a BREEAM Excellent certification or higher and are covered by management systems certified in accordance with the ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards. In addition, 91.7% of the electricity consumed in common areas and for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning comes from renewable sources. Installed photovoltaic capacity has reached 4 MWp, while energy-efficiency measures have generated 5.8 GWh in certified savings.

In the social sphere, Castellana Properties achieved a score of 91% in the Great Place to Work Trust Index and carried out more than 300 social initiatives across its shopping centres, focusing on inclusion, well-being, support for the local economy and collaboration with local organisations and communities.
